Privacy Policy

JobLocal is committed to protecting your personal data in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the Irish Data Protection Acts 1988–2018, and all applicable Irish and EU data protection law. Please read this policy carefully before using the JobLocal app or website.

1. Who We Are

JobLocal is operated by JobLocal (company registration pending with the Companies Registration Office, Ireland). We are the data controller for personal data collected through our app and website.

2. Who This Policy Applies To

This policy applies to all users of the JobLocal mobile application (iOS and Android) and website. JobLocal is intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe a person under 18 has provided us with their data, please contact us immediately.

3. What Personal Data We Collect

Account Information: Full name, email address, profile photo (if uploaded), account type (customer or tradesperson).

Profile Information (Tradespeople): Trade categories, service area and location, profile description, completed job count.

Content You Post: Job listings, availability posts, and messages sent through the in-app chat.

Location Data: General location (town/county level) when you post a job or availability listing. We do not continuously track your location.

Payment Information: Credit purchase history. Payment processing is handled directly by Stripe — we do not store your card details.

Usage Data: Expressions of interest made or received, credits earned/spent/refunded, reports submitted by or against your account.

Technical Data: Push notification token, device type and operating system.

4. How We Use Your Data

  • Creating and managing your account — Contract performance
  • Displaying your profile to other users — Contract performance
  • Enabling job postings and availability listings — Contract performance
  • Processing credit purchases — Contract performance
  • Sending push notifications — Consent
  • Detecting and preventing fraud and abuse — Legitimate interests
  • Reviewing user reports and enforcing our Terms — Legitimate interests
  • Retaining financial transaction records — Legal obligation (Irish tax law)

5. Who We Share Your Data With

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with the following trusted third parties where necessary to provide our service:

  • Google Firebase — database, authentication, file storage, push notifications (USA, Standard Contractual Clauses)
  • Stripe — payment processing (USA, Standard Contractual Clauses)
  • Apple Inc. — in-app purchases (iOS), push notifications (USA, Standard Contractual Clauses)
  • Google LLC — in-app purchases (Android), push notifications (USA, Standard Contractual Clauses)
  • Expo — push notification delivery (USA, Standard Contractual Clauses)

We may also disclose your data to law enforcement or regulatory bodies where required by law.

6. International Data Transfers

Some of our third-party providers are based outside the EEA, primarily in the United States. Where data is transferred outside the EEA, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place — specifically, Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission.

7. How Long We Keep Your Data

  • Account and profile data — deleted immediately when you delete your account
  • Job and availability listings — deleted immediately when you delete your account
  • Chat messages — anonymised when you delete your account (messages replaced with "Deleted User")
  • Credit transaction records — retained for 6 years after the transaction date (legal obligation under Irish tax law)
  • Reports filed — retained for a reasonable period for safety and fraud prevention

8. Your Rights Under GDPR

As a data subject under GDPR, you have the right to: access your personal data; correct inaccurate data; request erasure (you can delete your account via Settings → Delete Account); restrict processing; data portability; object to processing based on legitimate interests; and withdraw consent at any time.

9. Cookies

The JobLocal mobile app does not use cookies. Our website may use essential cookies to ensure basic functionality. We do not use tracking or advertising cookies.

10. Push Notifications

We send push notifications to alert you to new messages, expressions of interest, and account activity. You can disable push notifications at any time in your device settings.

11. Security

We use industry-standard measures including encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS), Firebase security rules, and secure payment processing via Stripe. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Where changes are material, we will notify you through the app or by email. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

13. Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we handle your personal data, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Commission (DPC), the supervisory authority for data protection in Ireland:
